The gentlemen (and lady) in maroon took to the field of the Iolani Red Raiders, in broiling Saturday heat. This was my second game as chaplain, and my first to record on "1st and 10".
As relationships are slowly being established, I had the extra "joy" of having the company of Chad and Nikki, who were video taping some sideline coverage for a feature on my serving day....adding to my anxiety. The boys don't say much right now, many are actually kind of feeling out what Pastor Kyle has in store for them... some are more open to speak than others. I think the camera made few even a little bit camera shy.
Still, I shared with the team from Hebrews 12 about the importance of discipline. How sometimes it's tough to receive discipline from their coaches, and while sometimes it's trying and hard, what the coaches are doing is investing their hearts into the young players, making them all the best they can be. The final word, "stay humble, play hard, have fun". And they did.
The biggest obstacle today was the heat. I think when Jesus said "well done, good and faithful servant", didn't mean for me to turn red. I thought I had enough Hawaiian in me, guess not!
FINAL SCORE: Farrington 42, Iolani 7. TYJ.
