Farrington vs. Roosevelt @ RHS Stadum, September 16 2011

We once again took to the beautiful RHS Stadium in downtown Papakolea to have our maroon and white soldiers go up against the home-team Roosevelt Roughriders. It was a mixed weather night, we got a bit of rain on us, but it was some serious full-power football for our Governor team.

I pondered at the fact that Roosevelt is a team with no wins, the last loss to our upcoming opponent Kahuku, with a brutal 53 - 0 smashing, and when we took the field after the Junior Varsity's 35 - 6 win, we could see that we clearly outmatched them. Team size, morale, it was hard for the boys and girl to play their best football. BUT THEY HAVE TO, if THEY ARE TO PLAY AS CHAMPIONS. There is this fine line between sportsmanship, and not playing at 110 percent football, yes, we can put in second and third stringers (we don't really have third stringers, as we are a team of 41 players), and even when they did go in, it was heavy-duty football on Farrington's part.

I shared with the team the importance of building on ROCK (as Jesus' parable). The team that builds on sand, maybe cause it's nice to be by the beach, but has NO FOUNDATION, will surely crumble and fall when the waves and the heat hit it. They have to build on ROCK....not just the football part, but in character, school, work ethic, family, relationships. I watched as some relationships amongst the team were a bit strained from maybe too much pranking. I think I'll speak to them this coming week on "who is the greatest", because I think that when you are undefeated, egos cannot help but be inflated. Time to inject the Jesus reality check, before the CLASH OF THE TITANS in two weeks. For now, our gridiron soldiers get a week to rest, regroup, train, and prepare.

Prayer list add ons; Sean Pacheco (offensive and video coach), Glenn Oshiro (special teams coach), Brian (didn't get his last name, but always present), Ron Oyama (Farrington's VP, and former football coach), Al Carganilla (FHS Principal and former coach), Darryl Ishihara (FHS staff and booster).  Keep praying!

FINAL SCORE: Farrington 63, Roosevelt 0. TYJ. Keep us humble, LORD Jesus. Amen.
