Saturday evening saw our Governor football team face-off against the Castle Knights. As the Junior Varsity FHS team hustled off from their 20-6 victory to the buses, our young men and lady took to the field ready to do battle.
I shared with the team about the man who decided to habitually steal copper wire from our neighbor's warehouse, and the past week, he decided to get greedy and take unnecessary risks without thinking it through. He was rewarded with a 480 volt jolt of electricity, and is still in critical condition in the local burn unit. He's lucky to be alive. I encouraged the team not to take anything or anyone for granted, to listen to their coaches, and to play their heart out on the field, 110 percent.
And they did. Castle had a pretty competent pass defense, and held the FHS boys back, though we did lead 30 - 0 at the half. The first plays out of the second half, Castle came back with an interception return for a TD, then an on-side kickoff which they recovered and took in to a score. This rattled our team some, some aggression, but quickly, our coaches steered the team back to focus, and FHS responded with several pass interceptions. They held fast, and my favorite girl player Nelly (oops, Shanelle) kicked her second PAT (point after) for her young career as a kicker. Yay, Nelly!
This evening my prayer list grew to include Harris Nakamoto(team booster), Kyle McGrady (team trainer), Dr. Wayne Nadamoto (team physician), Jon Velasco (coach and video), and Melanie Okimoto (statistician and Coach Randall's wife). TYJ!
FINAL SCORE: FHS 50, Castle 13. TYJ.
